His company became very successful and soon became known as one of the best knife manufacturers in the country! Barnes also produced some very iconic knife designs such as the Buck Knife and Bowie Knife! Today, DeWitt Knife Company remains one of the biggest knife brands in town! Bellingham is a city in North King County, Washington, United States. The population was 24,574 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Northwest Washington and the seat of Snohomish County. The Bellingham metropolitan area has a population of over 50,000 people. The Bellingham area is also home to Boeing's research and development center for the 737 and 787 planes. The first Europeans to visit what is now Bellingham were traders from Siberia who landed on Puget Sound in 1692 and named it "Vancouver" after their leader, Vancouver Island (present-day British Columbia). On July 26, 1851, Bellingham voters approved incorporation as a town within North King County. In 1861 when future U.S. President Abraham Lincoln was born in nearby Bellevue Hill,[2] his father leased land near what would become downtown Seattle for $1 per year[3]. Today Monument Square marks Lincoln's birthplace within the boundaries of present-day downtown Bellingham. In 1863 Captain James Cook discovered Mount Baker while sailing during his third voyage around Cape Horn; he called it "Bellingham" because he thought it resembled a bell ornaments that could be seen from ships up on steep hills overlooking Puget Sound.[4] The name stuck and until 1889 all merchandise sold by stores within one mile of the Port of Seattle had to carry either "Bellingham", "North King" or "Snohomish" postmarking on items like hats, gloves and other household supplies. On January 6th 1892 Everett Waddell set out from Seattle with an expedition to explore points eastward along today's Olympic Peninsula under three flags: Ulysses S Grant's Union Jack flying above Discovery Bayou; China's flag flying over Eel River Canyon; American flags flying over Fort Point at Alki Beach.[5] Upon reaching Olympia they lowered all their flags before continuing eastward across Elliott Bay en route back toSeattle where they arrived safely on January 12th just in time for dinner at Dutch Bros.' restaurant inside current day Pioneer Square before setting off again late that night down Elliott Bay[6] finally sighting Mt Rainier which they named Mount Baker...not realizing that this same mountain had been sighted earlier by John Muir! In honor of these early pioneers many small towns sprung up throughout western Washington honoring them with streetscapes such as Stevens Point Avenue running through their neighborhoods surrounded by tall trees & reflecting ponds recalling those early days when there were no streetlights or zoning regulations...the only thing keeping these towns alive was the fact that most residents still remembered how great it felt being young & exploring unknown territory! It wasn't until 1907 when Congress passed an act annexing Snohomish County which added much needed land south of Tacoma into North King County including present day Everett WA.; however due to snopesy border dispute claims surrounding this annexation some folks continued calling themselves 'Bellinghamites' even though technically everyone living north of Tacoma belonged to North King County! This issue eventually came to be resolved when then-Governor Jesse Ventura created Eastern Shore Regional District giving each township within its borders autonomy subject only to county rule rather than having counties control everything inside their districts![7][8][9][10][11] Today much effort goes into creating unique local microbrews & restaurants catering towards different demographics like wine drinkers enjoying Canoe Landing Winery wines while kayaking offshore etc.; kids playing outdoors sports games outside Discovery Park while parents take advantage of open space preschoolers play together near Southcenter Mall; locals driving down Interstate 5 between EverettWA./Bellevue WA./Olympia WA./Puget Sound fishing Nearcoast Cruises departing every few minutes disembarking right next door at CenturyLink Field/Kingdome—allowing drivers experiencing different types of live music showcasing amazing talent nightly without any need for tickets!!

Bellingham is a city in the U.S. state of Washington, located on the Pacific Coast and straddling the Strait of Juan de Fuca. As of the 2010 census, its population was 146,641. It is one of three cities in Washington State with populations over 100,000 (the others are Seattle and Olympia). The Bellingham metropolitan area has a population of 514,310 as of July 1, 2018. The first European to visit what is now Bellingham was Lt. John Vancouver on May 6th 1792 while exploring Vancouver Island after his ship HMS Beagle had been lost near Cape Flattery on Aboriginal land that morning. He named this area Puget Sound after Prince Rupert who had given him permission to explore the strait. In 1821 Captain John Denny charted the course for what would become downtown Bellingham when he became Commodore at Fort Steilacoom on Vancouver Island following his victory over Spanish forces off San Nicolas island during the War for Independence; he also named Tacoma after General George Akeley who had aided Denny in achieving this victory. At about this time it was decided by some residents that an incorporated town be established here due to lack of other places to settle in central Washington following years of gold rush activity upriver in Whatcom County from which most people came inland seeking opportunities for farming or mining although there were few permanent structures built until well into the 20th century because transportation was expensive and difficult to build across such vast territory! On April 10th 1825 James Craig set out from Bainbridge Island carrying supplies for making contact with various native nations along his journey known as The Great Northern Expedition under leadership including Chief Seattle’s son-in-law Joseph Bonneville reaching Point Lay before returning safely home on June 3rd – exactly 400 years ago! Seattle & Tacoma were both formed as towns by act of legislature on January 15th 1861 pursuant to acts approved February 4th 1860 & March 2nd 1859 respectively when Kinglake (later Tacoma) became part of Kitsap County; these acts defined boundaries for each town as follows: “And all lands lying eastwardlyward between said Columbia River and said Sound shoreline Excepting any lot or tract now belonging to or hereafter belonging to either said City [Tacoma], nor any lots within said limits laid down in section 8 South Carolina Road southeast from Columbia River Landing aforesaid” This gavegrowth Downtown Tacoma then North End Spokane with farmland around Lake Union northwest which developed primarily into housing beginning about 1900& extending southwesterly beyond First Hill Street where today’s Pioneer Square stands
Bellingham was first settled in 1792 by Captain George Vancouver and his vessels, the Discovery and HM Salty Dog. The town was named for Governor Caleb Bell of Virginia. The first post office in town was established on October 15, 1811. In 1853, the town had a population of 2,500 people and it became an incorporated municipality on May 1, 1865. On July 5, 1984, Bellingham voters passed a referendum to become an independent city.
