Bonney Lake is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,052 at the 2010 census. Bonney Lake is part of the Bellevue-Everett metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now BonneyLake were Indian traders and missionaries in 1811. In 1846, John Bonney and his brother George founded the town on land that had been given to them by their father-in-law, James Birkbeck. The name "Bonney" came from the local surveyor who named it for John Bonney's older brother George. (George later served as Mayor of Bellevue.) The first post office was established in 1851; it was called "Birkbeck". The first store opened in 1857 and became known as the "Rochester Store." In 1870, villagers built a gristmill which still stands today). By 1880, there were four grocery stores, two churches (the Baptist Church and Methodist Episcopal Church), a hotel (the Cascade Hotel), one sawmill, three schools (grades K-12), a post office (which became known as the "Post Office", until 1928), two banks (Washburn National Bank and First National Bank) and several businesses including a bakery and blacksmith shop. Eventually many of these businesses closed due to competition from larger towns such as Everett or Bellevue. But some of those businesses continued until they too closed down during the Great Depression. In 1922 when Everett incorporated as an independent city, BonneyLake annexed into Everett but kept its ownName; this name change happened because Everett wanted people to know that it was not just another small community within King County like bonny lake had been before annexation! The Post Office reopened on October 9th 1925 with Jeanette Ault serving as theFirst female Postal Inspector! . . . However by 1930 all but one business had either closed or changed hands multiple times so by then it would have been more accurate to call bonny lake 'Everett' instead of simply 'Bonney Lake'. In 1951 after most of central king county merged into Seattle(King county did not become federally organized until 1959)bonnylake lost its annexation rights but kept its Name; this name change happened because Everett wanted people to know that it was not just another small community within King County like bonny lake had been before annexation!

Bonney Lake was founded in 1892 by John H. Bonney and his family. The community developed around a small shopping center, the Bonney Lake Post Office, and a few homes. In the early 1900s, the town developed a water system and began to grow. By 1915, bonney lake had about 100 residents and it became an incorporated town. In the late 1920s, the town experienced growth due to its role in the construction of Interstate 5. As Interstate 5 was built through Bonney Lake, businesses opened up and development increased.
