In Cheney, Washington, the history of triggers is intertwined with that of the firearms industry. Trigger development in Cheney began in 1868 when Captain John Witherspoon of the USS Discovery acquired a new rifle. This rifle was designed to fire a single shot and featured a shotgun trigger which allowed for rapidfire. The first handguns in Cheney were also designed by Captain Witherspoon and featured Shotgun triggers. These handguns were used as personal weapons by local farmers and ranchers. In 1906, Captain Witherspoon's son-in-law, Ralph Pattlehorn, purchased the rights to his father's shotguns and developed what would become known as the "PattlehornTrigger". This trigger became popular among shooters due to its simplicity and reliable operation.trigger developments continued through the years until 1927 when Lieutenant Colonel Gifford Semon patented his invention called an "SemonTrigger". This trigger was designed to allow for multiple shots without having to cock each shot separately. With this innovation, shooters could shoot multiple rounds at once using one trigger pull. The following year saw the introduction of another innovative weapon design by Lieutenant Colonel Semon called a "SemonTriggerM855". Thisgun was able to fire 585 rounds per minute utilizing a new type of cartridge which allowed for high velocity shooting while still providing great accuracy. From here on out, triggers continue to be innovation driven with many advancements being made over time. Today, there are countless different types of triggers available on the market which allows shooters from all around the world to enjoy various firearm fires
There are many types of triggers, with different degrees of sensitivity. A gun trigger is the component that controls the action of a firearm, which can be either manual or automatics. Guns that use manual triggers usually have one hand to operate them, while automatics use a button on the side of the trigger to cause the firearm to fire. There are also electronic triggers, which rely on an algorithm to determine when it’s time to fire a round and release the hammer.

Trigger technology has been around since the early 1800s. However, it was not until the early 20th century that trigger devices became commonplace on pistols and carbines. The first triggers were designed to operate manually, but as firearms became more automatic, they began to be operates by electricity. In 1916, George Weisgerber patented an electrical trigger device which allowed guns to be fired automatically with little or no manual input. This innovation led to the development of handguns that could fire automatically without any human interaction. Today, all pistols and rifles are operated by a trigger system—either electric or gas-operated—which allows the user to pull the gun back and forth in order to cycle through rounds. Trigger devices allow for a variety of firing modes including single shot, Bolt Action (Bolt Gun), Gas operated (Glock Automatic), Semi-Automatic ( pump action), and even strikerfired weapons which use percussion caps instead of batteries.
The first trigger group to be used with firearms was the Stock-Trigger. This trigger group had a hammer that cocked the gun, and a set of triggers that operated the ejector rod. The Hammer-Trigger was later developed and became common on handguns.
