East Wenatchee,Washington is a small town located in Douglas County, Washington. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. East Wenatchee is one of the oldest towns in Douglas County and has been around since 1854. It is made up of a mixture of American Indian and European settlers from different parts of the United States. The first permanent settler in what would become East Wenatchee was John McConnell who arrived in 1854. McConnell was on his way to sell land he had purchased near present-day Cheney when he fell ill and died at the age of 28. His wife, Martha McConnell, took over his ownership of the land and started building her own house on it as well as another for their children. In 1865, John's widow married George Wickham who had also settled down in what would become East Wenatchee. Wickham named his farm "Wenatchee" after nearby Mount Rainier which he saw while hiking with his friends across The Cascades National Park. In 1905, Mrs. Wickham hired Charles Ewing to help her with her farming operations and he continued to work for her until 1925 when he bought out hers and moved away permanently to take up a position as head forester withDouglas County Parks Department..Between 1915-1920s two other families were added to the original Settlers including: Hervey & Childers (later known as Hervey) who came from Portland Oregon; Fenton family (later known as Fenton) who came from Grays Harbor; and Wetherington family (later known as Wetherington) who came from England but eventually decided to stay in east Wenatchee because they found good farmland hereabouts.. By 1930 there were 8 families living clustered around churches/parks/ Schools etc., all doing some form of agricultural production or services providing accessorial support especially during times of economic recession or war effort.. By 1940 there were only 3 families left - 2 Greek Orthodox nuns working at Holy Cross convent & one single man renting an old cabin from Mrs Wickham & his dog.. In 1953 new zoning regulations were enacted which reduced housing development within incorporated areas but allowed for growth outside those boundaries so that by 1970 there were over 20 homes situated throughout various parts of town including most notably within blocks bounded by Main Street, US Route 101A (& State Route 5), Wayfarer Avenue (& Old Highway 206), Broadway Avenue (& State Route 5B). East Wenatchee entered into its golden years under Mayor Melvin Jegarich’s leadership becoming an anchor community supporting many local businesses such as “The Wellness Place” health club/spa&massage parlor along with several tennis courts, GED classes & cultural events .. After years of struggles orchestrated by Mayor Jegarich culminating with annexation by city limits in 1995 following closure/ demolition of several schools allresidential properties became zoned residential again making it difficult for businesses founded before then to continue operating due lack thereofof rezoning variances etc.. As recently as 2006 City Manager Darrell Kapp acknowledged that significant challenges still remain despite recent progress made suchas establishmentofEastwenatcheedowntownbusiness district&increasedaccessibilityto downtown through improved transportation options thru Chilcotin Parkwayetc...In November 2017 City Administrator announcedthat after more than 10 years reviewandcommentingonavailable Alternatives council will recommend minor changes tothe current zoning regulations effective January 1st2018whichwouldallowforupto20householdsuponaproximately1acrelanddevised Paradise Valley subdivisionwithinCity Limitsbutnolarger subdivisionsOrbuildings WithinCity Limitsalthoughonebuildingmaybe erectedOnVillage sideOfLake .. There are few goods or services available within city limits other than groceries and clothesline service operated by Sisters Of Mercy which provides both front door cleaning & restaurant catering although facility closes mid-week; however Sisters offer milk counseling on Fridays during lunch hour; no public transportation available beyond walking or biking

Since the first humans arrived in what is now East Wenatchee, Washington, there have been many people who have contributed to the community. One of the earliest settlers in East Wenatchee was John Wesley Powell, who came to this area in 1892. Other early settlers include George Catlin, a Scottish explorer and surveyor who named many of the local rivers and lakes after himself. The town of Wenatchee was founded on October 15, 1903 by developers with the goal of making it a commercial center for the region. The town quickly grew into a small but bustling community that boasted a grocery store, post office, bank, library, doctor’s office and several churches. The days of large businesses are long gone in East Wenatchee today; however, through its various businesses and organizations such as Eastern Washington Agricultural Experiment Station (EAWES), East Wenatchee Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EWCI), Wenatchee Valley School District 9A (WVSD) and more recently American Rivers Trust (ARTS), the town has remained an important part of Northwest history. In recent years EWCI has worked to help preserve both its historical buildings and cultural resources within the town boundaries while continuing to promote economic development within its boundaries. Today, East Wenatchee is one of the most vibrant communities in Centralia County thanks to its rich history dating back over 125 years!

In 1881, East Wenatchee was founded by Simon Stevens and his wife Emma. The town was named for the east fork of the Wenatchee River. The Stevenses were farmers who had moved from Niles, Michigan. In 1885, East Wenatchee had a post office and a Methodist church. In 1886, the Stevenses built a sawmill on the river. In 1907, they built a flour mill on the river. The Stevenses also grew corn and wheat in their farmstead. From 1913 to 1917, East Wenatchee was in an agricultural depression because of World War I; however, they rebuilt their mill and kept it running until 1941. They also started a grocery store in 1915 and continued to operate it until 1975 when it closed down due to competition from Safeway. The community experienced another boom during World War II with the construction of airfields nearby; however, this did not last as development took over once again after the war ended. In 1955, East Wenatchee became an incorporated town with its own government; however, this lasted only for three years before being repealed due to lack of support from residents. East Wenatchee experienced some growth during the early 2000s as people moved into new homes near Highway 395/Wenatchee Falls Road; however, this trend stopped around 2010 when development began along those routes again instead of through East Wenatchee proper
