East Wenatchee, Washington is a town in Douglas County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The commercial center of East Wenatchee is the historic downtown area. Other areas of importance to the community include Glenwood Cemetery and East Wenatchee Lake. The first Europeans to visit what is now East Wenatchee were two fur traders, George Vancouver and Nathaniel Banks, on their journey from Russia in 1792. They named the river "Wenatchee" after Chief Yakima's nephew who had accompanied them on their trip. In 1812, Lewis and Clark passed through this region while exploring the Columbia River system for America. They called it "The Great Lakes Region." In 1851, Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens issued a proclamation designating portions of Douglas County as part of Eastern Washington Territory under the jurisdiction of then-Governor Isaac Stevens himself. On July 4th of that year, Eastern Washington Territory was created with an area including present-day Douglas County as its nucleus . The official start date for eastern Washington's Agricultural Experiment Station was September 11th – one week after incorporation into the United States – but it opened its doors on October 10th (the day after Thanksgiving) because many people were unable to attend its dedication ceremonies due to illness or war service abroad. On January 15th 1870 Revkin organized a meeting in East Wenatchee proposin' organize[ing] a Methodist church thereabouts which met until February 13th when four farmers objected to Revkin's proposal because they wanted separate meetings for their churches instead . A committee composed of Drs Greer and Fenton (one vote), Revkin (two votes), James Ritchie (one vote), John McClure (one vote) organized and elected Revkin pastor on March 2nd 1870 days before he moved into his new church near what is now Main Street east of present day North Avenue . East Wenatchee is a town in Douglas County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Douglas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Primitive villages and hamlets dotted the east side of what is now East Wenatchee Creek from its mouth at the Columbia River to about where it flows into Elliott Bay. The first European settlers in this area were French trappers and traders who hunted game in these hills during the 17th century. In 1851, the towns of East Wenatchee and North Wenatchee were merged to form East Wenatchee City. The first post office was established in East Wenatchee on July 15, 1853; it was renamed West Wenatchee in 1895. In 1907, a dam was built across East Fork ofEast Wenatchee Creek to create Lake Wanapum which would provide water for irrigation and other needs of the city as well as creating flood control around present-day downtown (later renamed Capitol Hill). This event helped spur economic growth within East Wenatchee City over time as farmers became more prosperous because they could sell their products upstream against higher costs downstream with no need for an extra farm labor force. Today, many businesses still operate out of former government buildings located on Capitol Hill due to limited space available elsewhere in downtown. The community experienced rapid growth following World War II when military housing projects were built throughout Douglas County including Friendship Estates and nearby Gooseberry Point Naval Air Station (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord). These developments brought many people into town who needed jobs or homes that could be taken care of both short term and long term; this led to new housing developments being constructed all along Interstate 5 south of town between 1942 and 1945 known as “the supply belt” which spanned much of present day east side residential neighborhoods such as Eagle Rock Drive/Hillsborough Avenue NW & NE, Fountain Hills Road EAST & WEST barely touching Lakeshore Drive & Indian Bend Rd., etc.). Many people from outside the city moved into these areas after the war ended but some residents still reside there today because they can live close enough to work without having to leave their home or rely on public transportation just outside town limits

The first white settlers in the area were Jedediah Smith and his party of two men, one of whom was named George. The first town in what is now East Wenatchee was founded by Smith on July 10, 1847. It was called "Wenatchee." In 1870, a post office was established at Wenatchee and the name changed to East Wenatchee. The town became a county seat in 1865 and it remained so until 1959.
