Lake Forest Park, Washington is a census-designated place in King County, Washington. The population was 1,701 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Lake Forest Park were white men who arrived from British Columbia in 1877. They erected a log cabin on the banks of the Spokane River and named itafter their home town in England—Harcourt Place. In 1879, they founded what became known as the "First National Bank" in downtown Lake Forest Park. By 1893, there were six stores and twenty-one businesses open in downtown Lake Forest Park. In 1911, organized crimesters Willie MacNeil and Harry Haggerty opened up an illegal speakeasy at 5th Avenue and Neely Street called "The Vault." The police closed it down after several months because they could not find any liquor that matched the description of the hidden drink! On July 4, 1910 (the day after Washington's centennial), local citizens gathered together to celebrate by fireworks displays across Chicago's Pierogi Island near Seattle's Duwamish Waterfront district. A group of about fifty people including two officers from Lake Forest Park formed a human chain to welcome America's new century with songs such as "Dixie", "Yankee Doodle", and "March Madness". At one point during this event, one individual brandished what appeared to be a .45 caliber revolver! One hundred years later on July 4th (2010), residents of Lake Forest Park gather once again to celebrate their community with fireworks displays across Chicago's Pierogi Island near Seattle’s Duwamish Waterfront district
