Longview is a town in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tacoma–Yakima Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Longview were the Puyallup tribe and their allies who built some crude huts on the banks of the Duwamish River in 1847. A post office called Long View was established in 1853, but failed to take off because no one wanted to come to an eastern corner of Kitsap County. In 1884, George Quesenberry donated land east of present-day Longview for a school district he had been involved in creating in Tacoma. The first public school opened its doors on December 31, 1884. In 1914, creation of King County necessitated the relocation of many businesses and residents around Tacoma due to new zoning laws that restricted development near waterways and other literary resources like universities. This led to Longview becoming an isolated community with few transportation options and few opportunities for education or work outside of farming or logging. However, by 1920 there were over 100 residents living within a radius of . During World War II(), many local farmers took up arms against Japanese soldiers as part of what became known as "the long fight". Many women helped out with farm work during the war; one example being Betty Kuhn who worked at her parents' farm until 1944 when she married Don Kuhn and moved into his home with their two children after her father's death from natural causes at age 82 years old (Kuhn 1984). After World War II ended, several families returned to Longview including those from nearby Clyde Lake which formed part of King County's original reservation following the end of hostilities; these families also ranched cattle and raised potatoes until they sold their holdings in 1948 (Levin 2006). The post-war boom period brought more industry but little change for locals struggling economically during this time period (Hansen 2008). In 1966 large tracts surrounding town were given away by JDC owner Puget Sound Land Company under a deed restriction program designed to encourage development along certain routes serving important industries such as shipbuilding (Fowler et al 2001). However it didn’t take long for developers interested only in building high-density housing sites rather than developing any commercial or industrial property opted not to build; instead they constructed apartment complexes instead (Fowler et al 2001). Despite this lackluster development happening within town limits much did occur beyond – most notably increasing vehicle traffic coming through town made it difficult for local merchants unable or unwilling try selling goods door-to-door Many longtime residents have written about how Main Street has become almost unrecognizable since it’s typical shopping center feel began deteriorating more than 20 years ago when grocery store stocks dwindled due largely to Interstate 5 construction that closed miles upon miles worthof access points leading into town while neighboring towns flourished (Galloway 2009a1b2c3d4e5f6g7h8: “Longview Struggles as Businesses close Doorsteps”), however even if stores are closed all day long there still exists a sense that something remains missing despite having nearly identical storefronts across all 7 blocks located inside/nearby I-5 minutes walk from everywhere you could hope for groceries including Safeway., gas stations etc...
