This is one of only two businesses in Longview that have been continuously open since 1907 (the other being The Grease Monkey). The town was founded in 1885 by George Long and his wife Sarah Ann Brown, who made it their home until her death in 1922. In 1927 the townsite of East Longview were annexed to Longview; this annexation created a second town within the boundaries of Longview proper. According to the 2010 US Census, there are 2,611 people living in Longview. Of these 2,611 people, 1,716 (75%) are citizens of King County and 576 (25%) are non-citizens. The racial makeup of Longview is 94% White and 5% Black or African American. Hispanic or Latino residents make up 3% of the population; all other races make up 0%.
In the early 1800s, Longview was a small agricultural community located on the banks of the Columbia River. It was known for its corn and wheat crops, and for its ferry service which transported goods and passengers between Longview and nearby Seattle. In 1872, the town was renamed Seattle after King George Washington's capital in Virginia. The name stuck and Longview continued to be a center of industry until the late 1800s when it became a small farming community again.
