Nevin also laid out a town plan for Maple Valley which included three streets running north-south each with two blocks long; one block wide; and 12 feet (3 m) deep fronting Main Street. His town became known as Nevinville after him. In 1865, James Fenton purchased 1/4 mile (0 km) of woodland near present day downtown Maple Valley from Captain John Stevens for $5 per acre ($ / km²). Fenton renamed his property "Fenton's Prairie". He used it for grazing until 1888 when he sold it to Ira Ewing for $10 per acre ($ / km²). The first post office was established in Maple Valley on November 25th, 1889 by Jno Wistar with Pemberton as his mailing address until 1893 when he moved into his own house on North Main Street (). Ira Ewing operated Beaver Dam Post Office from 1895 until 1899 ().
