In 1925, Mapleton post office was established at what is now Maple Valley High School; it served residents of nearby Lacey until 1959 when it was moved to Nehalem. In 1963, Mapleton Elementary School opened and remains its current location today; it served students from kindergarten through eighth grade until closure in 2002 due to low enrollment levels. In 1985,Mapleton Middle School opened which continues to serve students up through eleventh grade today. Finally,maple valley High Schoolopened in 1999 which serves students from ninth through twelfth grades today Since its establishment as a community within King County, Maple Valley has experienced significant growth - both literally (the increase in population since 1990) as well as figuratively (through numerous businesses opening up within recent years).
