The town of Maple Valley was founded in 1877 by John and Anna McDonald. The first post office was established in this town on July 1, 1877. The community of Maple Valley grew rapidly due to the lumber industry and the arrival of settlers. In 1911, a school was built in the community and it served as the primary school until 1975. Maple Valley was annexed by Seattle in 1949 and became part of the city limits.
