Redmond, Washington is an incorporated city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 97,651 as of the 2010 census. Redmond is the largest city and county seat of King County and it is also the second-largest municipality in Puget Sound after Seattle. In 1907, a group of Redmond entrepreneurs founded what would become Microsoft Corporation with a $20 investment from James J. Ferrell. Redmond's first building was a garage on 12th Avenue South and Pine Street. The company name was changed to Microsoft in 1947, when Bill Gates assumed control of the company from his father. Today, Microsoft employs over 160 people at its corporate headquarters located on Half Moon Road within walking distance of all the major shopping districts in town including Capitol Hill and Pioneer Square. Redmond has been home to some of Microsoft's most iconic products such as Windows 95 (1995), Windows NT (1999), Xbox 360 (2005), Office 2003 (2001), OneDrive for Business (2013) and Lumia 950/950XL (2015). The new campus opened in 2006 with 1 million square feet (+100 acres) for development including ample parking spaces for employees and their families as well as space for future expansions that still remains today under construction on site less than two miles away from downtown Redmond

According to legend, whenGeneral Vancouver met Chief Daniel Boone at the mouth of the Snoqualmie River near present-day Redmond he proposed naming this site "Erie." The chief refused but suggested that something similar be placed nearby on Mount Rainier so that people would know where he stood; this became known as Mount Vernon because it did eventually become part of Ottawa Province within Canada. In 1851, when Territorial Legislature adopted bill No. 1 creating King County by merging Kittitas and Lacey counties into one district under territorial government control, residents of Sammamish Valley voted not to join King County due to concerns about land acquisition and growth potentials in unincorporated areas adjoining King County including those around Redmond and Bellevue which lay between Everett and Seattle on Puget Sound shoreline only 5 miles wide at their widest point! A group led by Professor Charles Wickersham decided that annexation should proceed despite these fears and persuaded an initial group of 11 voting citizens from Sammamish Valley who formed an organization called “The Committee for Annexation” chaired by Wickersham himself on February 10th 1852 – exactly 122 years ago! In 1898 voters approved a referendum allowing annexation of all or part of Everett; this vote set off a seriesOf referendums throughoutKing County culminating in Annexation Act No: 98-A on November 15th 1998 which granted annexation permission from all unincorporated areas adjacentKingCountyincludingthosearoundRedmondandBellevuewhichlaybetweenEverettandSeattleonPugetSoundshorelineonly5milewideattheirwidestpoint! Redmond was founded in 1798 by George Washington and the town's first settler, John Sell. The area now known as Redmond was a part of King County until 1846 when it became part of Puget Sound County. It was renamed Redmond in 1889 after A.P. Redmond, an early landowner and local councillor. In 1917, the Wilson administration announced its intention to create a national park in the area; this led to the city acquiring surrounding farmlands for the park. The park opened on November 15, 1918.
