Richland is a small town in the Kittitas County, Washington, United States. The population was 4,083 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Goldendale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is named after General James K. Polk and his family who settled there in 1847. Richland was founded on the site of an old logging camp which had been abandoned by Indians in 1839. The first post office opened in 1843, and the first store was built in 1849. In 1895, Richland began to be developed as a farming community with wells, churches and schools being built along with cotton plantations for wealthy farmers from Oregon and California. By 1912, most of the development had stopped due to a drought that hit rich farmland near Winthrop and other nearby towns during that year's Agricultural Show. In 2000, Richland joined forces with Goldendale to form the Wenatchee-Goldendale Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). That year saw significant growth for both towns as they merged their government infrastructure into one entity to help improve communication between them as well as increase economic opportunities for all residents of both communities. Today, Richland remains an agricultural community with a focus on raising livestock and crops such as corn, beans and wheat; however, it has also seen recent growth in its role as an entertainment center due to its location close to several airports and its access to many interstate highways. Several new businesses have been established in recent years such as: a pet retailer called Gilded Cage; a hair salon called One Stop Hair Salon; an art gallery called Dandelion Gallery; plus several restaurants including Carlsbad's Ribeye Steakhouse which opened its doors in 2013; Plus Appleseed Cafe which opened its doors in late 2016 adjacent to Interstate 5/Upper Snoqualmie River Parkway exit 219A (the same exit used by Starbucks) making it one of only two full time restaurants within minutes' walk of any resident of Richland!

Richland is a small town in Washington state, located about 25 miles northeast of Seattle. It is the smallest incorporated city in the United States and the county seat of King County. In 2010, its population was 20,819. The first people to live in what would become Richland were farmers who arrived during the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush of 1858. By 1861, there were five stores and 50 residents. The town was platted on December 15, 1861 by developers from Seattle with authorization from Territorial Governor Edwin Cranch. They named it after a rise near the junction of Puget Sound and Lake Washington called Richland Park after President James K. Polk's estate at Panama Plantation on Puget Sound where he had been living as part of his presidential campaign trip that year. The town site was surveyed by J H Richardson Associates under contract to Mr F W Goodyear & Son for $1,000 cash plus 10 acres (4 ha) of land per day until title could be obtained if platting continued unimpeded by any party or interest; work on the town began on January 1, 1862 and ended on February 15th when all platting had been completed but no titles had been issued because it was still under construction In 1865 Richland became an unincorporated community within King County due to lack of either housing or businesses available nearer downtown Seattle In 1870 Richland annexed part of SeaTac which made it one municipality On October 1st 1886 John Dorenberger opened what would later be known as Dorenberger's Department Store which functioned as a post office until 1907 when it moved to Tacoma In 1911 Richland annexes much larger portions of Bothell including Friendship Heights and Welly Island creating what would be known as Bothell-Richmond Township
