In Tukwila, Washington, there is a rich history of knife-making and use. The area has been inhabited by the indigenous Timucua people for over 10,000 years and their knives are some of the most well-known in all of North America. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Washington were traders who traveled through the area in search of new resources. Many different enterprises were started here during this time including logging camps which supplied lumber to Seattle during the late 19th century; breweries which produced beer throughout Puget Sound; a schoolhouse which served as a community center until 1914; a hospital which opened in 1925; and an ice cream parlor which closed in 1977). During World War II many military personnel lived near or within walking distance of Tukwila’s naval base where they could procure supplies needed for their troops abroad. Consequently, knife-making also flourished here due to the high demand for kitchen knives by servicemen! Tukwila is a city located in the U.S. state of Washington. The population was 14,844 at the 2010 census, making it the second largest city in Kitsap County after Seattle. The naval air station closed during World War II but remained an important center for air defense until 1949 when all U.S military airports were consolidated into one organization under control of the Department of Defense; consequently, Bremerton resumed its former role as TUKWILA Naval Air Station with no connection to civilian life or development. In 1966, local officials decided that downtown redevelopment should be their top priority and adopted a plan called "The Village", which aimed to transform downtown into a vibrant community with market-rate housing, public services and businesses throughout its core blocks bounded by Fourth Avenue NW (to the east), First Avenue NE (to the north), Union Street NW (to the west) and Interstate 5 (to the south). In order to finance this vision they created WSU's first student loan program which has since been reduced in size but remains an important part of campus financial assistance programs today. The University also built two large dormitories - Husky Hall on East Union Street and Hewitt Hall on South First Avenue - through private donations totaling $40 million dollars over 27 years following economic hard times caused by recessionary conditions during that time period; these buildings continues serve as housing for both students and faculty members today along with numerous other associated amenities such as weight training facilities,. The city of Tukwila sits on the Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma. It was founded in 1881 by Scottish immigrant John McGowan and his wife, Mary Jane. The city's first store was built on Ferry Street. Tukwila was named after a native tribe, the "Tuktoyaktok" or "Great Lakes Tribes." The first post office in Tukwila was established in 1892. In 1907, the city hosted the Washington State Fair which attracted over 100,000 people. The fairgrounds were later used as a military airbase during World War II. In 1970, Tukwila became an official town when it joined King County. In 1984, the city passed an ordinance establishing Everett as its sole Comprehensive Planning District (CPD).
