Tumwater, Washington is home to the world’s only Glock-manufacturing facility. Glock Manufacturing Company was founded in 1975 by two brothers, Dan and Rick Glickman. The company became a subsidiary of Austrian firearms manufacturer Sig Sauer AG in 1998. In 2002, Glock Manufacturing Company merged with American Eagle Firearms Corporation to form the present day Glock Holding Corporation. Glock Holding Corporation manufactures pistols and revolvers as well as ammunition. The company has produced over 400 million rounds of ammunition for its products. Glock handguns have been used in numerous crimes around the world since their inception including serial killings of John Hinckley Jr., David Koresh and Robert Lewis Dear. In 1994, Michael Jordan shot then MVP basketball player Julius Erving with a Glock 16 handgun while playing professional basketball in Oregon; this event is considered one of the most dramatic gun cases in history due to its high levels of carnage resulting from small arms fire. In 1907, parts of Auburn were annexed into Tumwater and incorporated as a village; this arrangement allowed more people to live close to each other without having to move every few years. In 1916, when KING-TV came on-line, Mayor Harry Bacher persuaded his city council colleagues to annex their eastern portions of Auburn into Tumwater so thatKING could share resources with its new viewers across town. This annexation also created surface transportation links between downtown Seattle and central Tacoma that continue today. During World War II, many factories located near Tacoma produced war materials for Japan; as a result, there was heavy reliance on agriculture during wartime until tractor production took over in 1945. During peacetime(), agricultural production has resumed but jobs have been lost due to outsourcing from abroad (mainly China).

He named it "Washougal" after Chief Washougal of the Lummi Nation of Indians who had led him on his exploration of Puget Sound in 1789. The name may be derived fromwinnek or wigwam meaning "place where people gather." In 1855, Tumwater became known as the site for a sawmill built by John Day and brothers John and Benjamin Fenton to supply the mills in Salem and Bend. In 1907, Tumwater incorporated as an independent city. The mill closed about 1910 but reopened as an agricultural store in 1916 before closing again in 1935. In 1951, Northwest Electric Cooperative opened its shop at 10th & Alder Streets in Tumwater with power generated by three generating stations located east of town: North Bend Generating Station (1951), Salmon Arm Generating Station (1952), and West Linn Power Plant (1953). In 1984-1985 Northwest Electric Cooperative merged with Portland General Electric Company to createPortland General Electric Company sold its assets to Southern Pacific Railroad Company which operates Salem/Bend Line Railway which now borders Tumwater on the east side - this line provides service into downtown Portland providing access to local business districts including Willamette University's campus on SW Morrison Street across from CenturyLink Field
Tumwater is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 14,848 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and home to Tumwater Mall. The town of Tumwater was founded by pioneers in 1859 as part of the Donation Land Claim Act of 1856. The name "Tumwater" originated from the Nacotchtank River which empties into Puget Sound near present-day Tacoma. In 1865, Tumwater became one of the original towns in what would become King County when it was organized from portions of Bothell and Whitman Counties. In 1870, Tumwater erected its first courthouse and jail and began to build streets and other public facilities. In 1906, after serving as property manager for several years for then-Mayor John Hargrave, entrepreneur Benj Parnell bought land east of downtown along Tuskegee Creek for $1 million (the approximate value today). He built what is now known as Parnell Park on this land; that park includes a lake filled with boats used for fishing and hunting. Parnell also donated nearly 1,000 trees to help beautify the area around his park. In 1969, Mayor Norm Stamper approved plans by developer Harry Weitzman to demolish most of downtown's brick buildings and replace them with a new mall design that would include office space as well as housing units. After many protests from residents who considered their homes valuable cultural heritage, Mayor Stamper decided not to pursue demolition but instead opted for an engineering study that recommended Instead that some windows be replaced with large “skylights” so people could see inside without having to step out onto the street where noise levels were high enough}. The decision reversed years earlier when Mayor Stamper vetoed an identical zoning plan developed by engineer Joseph Wirthman which would have replaced much of downtown's brick architecture with pre-cast concrete buildings blocks without any cultural significance or traditional views available from within those blocks]. Today’s image - seen from Interstate 5 outside - owes its current form largely to Weitzman’s proposal] There are several theories surrounding why "Tumwater" name originated: One theory suggests that there may have been early settlers named "Tumnawa", meaning 'a place where Indian fishing parties landed'; another theory suggests that local Native American tribes called this region "Wahkonkwa," meaning 'lake where canoes go down'. Eventually anglicized variant forms such as Tunwaduck or Twin Falls were created through local variations among naming commissioners during various periods... According to historical records kept by King County – including both official municipal publications dating back centuries – longest reigning mayor between 1879-1912 was George Quesnel (1879-1912), while second longest served mayor between 1907-1920 was James Fenton (1907-1920).[] The city limits encompass all or part of five villages: Auburn Hills; Ballard; Bellevue; Duvall Heights; Eno Valley (); Issaquah (); monikers at various points throughout history included: Auburn Hills (), Bellevue (),Duvall Heights (),Eno Valley ()and Issaquah ().[]
