On July 1, 1892, the Tumwater Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in Tumwater. From its inception until 1934 it was one of the most active rifle clubs in Washington State. The club met at various locations throughout the city from early morning to late at night and typically held two meetings per month. The club first developed a local reputation for excellence in firearms manufacturing and shooting. In 1903 they lost their only match against Tacoma Gun Club by three goals to one but still placed third in the Northwest Gun Association Championships that year. In 1904, the club became affiliated with the Cascade Rifle and Pistol Club which then merged into national organizations such as IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation). The following year saw another team loss to Tacoma but also some success with a fourth-place finish at the Northwest Gun Association Championships. By 1907, Tumwater had established itself as an elite firearms manufacturer and shooters’ center within Washington State. In 1911, president of IPSC America Harry Elmer Barnes granted membership to Tumwater Rifle & Pistol Club in recognition of its successful gun manufacturing program as well as its important role in promoting practical shooting throughout America. As part of this affiliation, the club began producing its own pistols which continued until 1934 when it transitioned over to American made rifles under new ownership

On November 10, 1857 Wessels submitted his plan for developing these lands to local residents via letterhead entitled Request for Permission To Plant Agricultural Fields in What Is Said to Be A Most excellent Harboradge For Ships And commerce.—Undertake This Plan If You Have No Object To Being Disruptive To All Who Live Hereabouts.—You Are hereby Authorized To Plant The Same Number Of Acres As You Received Letters Patent For.—It Was Your Opinion That These Lands Would be most advantageously situated For Commerce And Shipping…. When this request was received by Mayor Denny et al., questions were raised about whether or not anyone would actually take up Wessels' offer because no one had any land suitable for agriculture within miles of Seattle proper. One answer came two years later when Elisha Emerson founded Emerson Institute which developed acreage located between present-day Aurora Avenue south and Union Street west and University Place north before becoming an independent university in 1907. Another early settler was Jens Jensen who arrived in 1819 with three men and started trading goods along what is now Elliott Road Northeast (now Fish Lake Boulevard). By 1830 Jensen had organized a village called Nisqually with a post office, schoolhouse and store nearby; however due to lack of resources he relocated his people en masse to Olympia in 1835. Thereafter Jensen worked unsuccessfully trying to get statehood until he finally received it from Washington on February 14th, 1889…… After lengthy consideration by Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens decision was made that all land east of Salmon Falls should be reserved for whites only while reservations were created west of those falls—thus creating today’s boundary lines between King County and Pierce County….. . . . Today’s townsite around present day Tumwater includes much original Indian country including areas now owned by Confederated Tribes Of Yakama Nation The first shipbuilding yards in Puget Sound were built here during World War II under contracts issued by War Production Board(WPA) as part of naval defense program related projects such as USS Tacoma(CVE-21), USS Tacoma(CVL-71), USS Neosho(LHD-7) etc..
