By 1850 only about 10% of Canadian immigrants had arrived in British Columbia while over 60% had come to try out new life in what would become Vancouver; many factors such as lowpox rates among Asians living near English towns/cities led many Chinese immigrants into British Columbia instead during this time period including: Dutton’s Hastings Point Colony; Fraser River Colony – set up by Captain George Fraser following instructions from Macdonald]; Commercial Dockyard Colony - formed by Fuhrman & Company from Hong Kong with intentions of constructing a tea harbour on Burrard Inlet opposite Jericho Beach;; Gastown – established by Danish immigrant Christian Hansen in1858;; Beechworth – set up by Scottish immigrants under license from Sir John Airdrie around 1870;; Kitsilano Beach – developed primarily through commercial fishing activity with early occupants being local fishermen followed soon thereafter by smiths, printers and others involved with shipbuilding.;Point Grey Airport - opened October 20th 1959 served mainly passenger traffic with occasional cargo flights
