After World War II ended with Japan's surrender (April 1945), most Americans left for Japan but some stayed behind to help rebuild things like carpenters and electricians (who were needed rebuilding Hiroshima). Some local businesses also continued operations such as Chevron gas station which still stands today across from First Interstate Station on NE 16th Street between Broadway and NE Seattle Street – one of only a few US-based companies that has not moved since before oil prices crashed in 1973.) By 1916, lens manufacturers had developed lenses that could be made more resistant to scratches or fading, so eyeglasses became more popular among people who frequently travelled outside of their home country.
