In 1951, however,Vancouver seceded from Oregon and became its own country called Canada West (later renamed Northwest Territories). Despite this change in scenery, many things about our history remain unchanged- such as our love for independence!
Vancouver was founded in 1792 by Spanish traders, who named it Santiago de Chile after the original site of the city. In 1851, it became a United States territory and was renamed Vancouver Island.
