The first handguns that were imported into Canada were pistols created by Nicholas Latham in 1892. These handguns were called “Natchez” pistols because they were made from natural Hickory wood (not from an oak tree). By 1902, there had been enough progress made with handgun manufacturing that Canadian manufacturers began producing revolvers as well as shotguns and rifles specifically designed for personal protection purposes such as concealed carry or target shooting (see below). By 1916 there were over 1,500 handgun manufacturers across Canada active in the firearms industry. Of these producers only about 100 had any production capacity within Canada for handguns alone; however both revolver production (mainly importation) and shotgun production rapidly escalated throughout World War I due to demand by Canadian forces fighting on various fronts around the world (see below). During World War I handgunsManufacturing activity increased significantly due largely to wartime shortages caused by excise taxes levied on firearms exports originating from Great Britain . This tax effectively stopped importation of firearms into Canada , leading firearm manufacturers to concentrate efforts withinCanada’s borders rather than export products abroad where prices would be much higher

The Second World War led to a decline in business activity but also brought new residents who invested in the city's redevelopment during that time period including some notable architects such as Eero Saarinen and Alfonso Ossorio. In 1955, when the City of Vancouver incorporated as a municipal corporation, it became one of only two cities in Washington state (the other being Tacoma) to do so without referendum measure approval from its citizens. During the 1960s and 1970s there were dramatic changes taking place in Vancouver with massive growth in coffee production followed by an increase in housing development around False Creek waterfront which continues today as Downtown False Creek neighbourhood. During that time period also many top international athletes including Greg Louganis lived or played their high school basketball careers here before moving on to college or professional basketball/football Teams such as Gonzaga Bulldogs football team players Jerome Bettis (7th overall pick by Pittsburgh Steelers), Warren Sapp (AFL player for Arizona Cardinals) among others have worn Canada flag clothing while playing professional sports here locally Canadian rock band CMT aired their final concert held at Rogers Arena on December 7th 2006 prior to departure for UBC Canucks Hockey Team's season opener against Calgary Flames

In 1851, Vancouver was the first site chosen for a permanent U.S. military post in Washington Territory. The choice of the site is significant because it was on the Fraser River, which would later become a key transportation corridor for goods and people moving between Northwest Territories and California. The post's location made it an important center for trade with both Canada and Mexico and also served as a staging ground for military campaigns against Native Americans. The first building on the present-day campus of George Washington University was built in 1854 at what is now called Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. The fort served as a headquarters for U.S. troops stationed in British Columbia until 1855, when they were transferred to what is now Seattle after the completion of the Lewis and Clark Expedition across North America. In 1863, General Winfield Scott issued orders to build Fort Vancouver "for the purpose of intercepting any hostile Indians who may be roaming about our territory." That same year, Vancouver became one of three towns in Washington Territory designated to receive military shipments from ports on Lake Superior through Brownsville and Tacoma. After Washington became a state in 1889, Fort Vancouver National Historic Site became part of the newly created State Capitol Complex within Olympia City limits (Olympia had been established as an incorporated city by law on July 1, 1889). Over time, other parts of Olympia City – such as Burnside Park – have been annexed into Capitals complex while still others have been developed outside its boundaries including Pioneer Square (the original home of Seattle Hall), Downtown Bellevue (home to Microsoft Corporation’s main office) and Mountlake Terrace (home to King County Jail). Today, much of Capitol Complex remains undeveloped commercial property located near I-5 northbound exit 2706 while portions close off Queen Anne Avenue between 5th Ave Nw./Everett Place Nw., Yesler Way NE/Alki Beach Rd., Snohomish Blvd./Shoreline Ave., G St./Everett Place S., First Hill NW/Downtown Everett
