West Richland, Washington is a town in Spokane County, Washington. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Spokane metropolitan area. The area now known as West Richland was first settled by people in 1847 as part of the Great Lakes colony of boats called the "Fenwick Expedition." By 1860, it had become an up-and-coming community on the Spokane River because of its location near rich coal and timber resources. In 1886, after World War I broke out and American troops were sent to fight in Europe, West Richland became one of several small towns located along Interstate 90 that were developed as businesses catering to soldiers and their families. One such business was The Wagon Wheel restaurant which still stands today in downtown West Richland. On November 3rd, 1972 KREM-TV aired a special report called "The Disappearance Of Diana Ross" which included interviews with numerous residents from around West Richland who had knowledge about her disappearance that day four years earlier. This report helped bring renewed attention to WestRichland and its history and made possible for more research into what happened that day. In 2007, a statue honoring Diana Ross was dedicationed at the corner of 34th Avenue South and Main Street in honor of her contributions to local commerce and culture. In recent years there has been significant growth taking place within the town limits including development along I-90 eastbound between milepost 231 (near Interurban) and 239 (just past Woodhaven Mall), as well as new housing developments west of Highway 82 (along much of Forest View Drive). While some locals continue to voice concerns about potential abuse or neglecttaking place within certain aspects of these developments - such as schools - most residents support this growth while remaining supportive overall of their smaller neighborings

During World War II, West Richland played an important role as an ammunition dump for Kane County. In 1944-1945, local residents were instrumental in helping to build Fort Snelling which later became Camp David National Monument. During peacetime, however, West Richland experienced significant growth with the opening of several hospitals including United States Naval Hospital (USNH) Kane Island and Columbia Regional Medical Center (CRMC). In recent years, the town has seen continued growth with development totaling over $1 billion dollars since 2007 alone! This growth has led to increased competition for resources such as jobs and housing; however,WestRichland remains committed to its strong sense of community pride and continues to thrive thanks to its citizens’ dedication to their businesses and their families
