As a result of these events and changes withinWestRichlandovertheyears – both with regard to gun ownership and usage – it has come into form one of the most firearm-heavy areas in Washington state.
West Richland is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. West Richland was founded in 1881 by pioneers from what is now Tacoma and Enumclaw. The first post office was established in 1882. The name West Richland came from a grant given to farming pioneer Major John West by Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens. The grant included land for a new town on the east side of Elliott Bay which would include a river crossing and be named after him. The townsite site that became West Richland was chosen because it had ample space for schools, churches, and other buildings. In 1886, the first school building was erected on what is now State Route 2A south of Interstate 5 near the present day intersection of State Route 2 and NE 95th Street (now SE 117th Avenue). A second school building was built in 1895 on lot #10 in what is now SE 124th Street/State Route 232 (now SE 122nd Avenue). This location served as both schools until 1923 when they were consolidated into one structure on lot #2 opposite Interstate 5 south of School District 116's current campus at Evergreen Way South/US-101 (then SR-232)

In 1912, West Richland became an unincorporated community and post office called East Richland. On July 1, 1944, it merged with the neighboring town of North Bend to form the new town of West Richland.
