Woodinville, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 12,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Fremont–Seattle metropolitan area. Woodinville is located on Issaquah Creek and shares borders with Bellevue to the south and Redmond to the north. The first Europeans to enter what is now King County were Captains George Vancouver and James Cook in 1792 during their exploration of North America. They discovered the Strait of Juan de Fuca and named it "Wenatchee" after one of their ships. The town began as a small log cabin colony founded by Captain Cook's men near present-day Everett on February 14, 1825. One hundred men lived there for two years while they built boats and hunted deer and bear in what is now Issaquah Creek Valley. In 1827, Congress established Puget Sound Road which connected Seattle with Olympia through Issaquah Creek Valley; this connection made wooded hills such as today's Woodinville possible for development as farms became available along the creek valley floor below high water levels or on higher ground where trees could be grown taller than street level rail lines could reach (today's streets run up hill from lower areas). On March 3, 1829, when Malia Keyes married John Cascadden at nearby Mount Vernon Baptist Church – one of Seattle’s earliest weddings – Woodinville’s only store opened its doors. During World War II, Woodinville served as a bombing range forthe Pacific Northwest Air Forces. After the war, thetown underwent rapid growth as manufacturing and services replaced agriculture as its mainstay economy. In recent years, woodinville has seen increased development with several new buildings being constructed along First Avenue NE and Roosevelt Way NE.
