Fairmont is a town in West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,977 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wheeling-Charleston-Fayette County, WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Fairmont" likely originated from two years of Log Cabin meetings held there in 1876 and 1877, which were called "The Fairmont Conference." The first reported sale of real estate in Fairmount took place on July 2, 1879. The townsite was laid out by John Fairchild on December 10, 1881. In 1916 a new school building was dedicated to provide education opportunities for Black children living near the then white only town limits; this building still stands today as Bellefontaine Elementary School (now known as Gateway Preparatory School). In 1923 an ordinance establishing a hospital gave rise to the current name – White Haven Hospital – before finally settling on Fairmount Hospital on November 1st 1924 when that facility became operational following World War I efforts to provide care for returning veterans and their families members scattered around West Virginia and Kentucky with little or no medical facilities available anywhere else within those states or even outside Pennsylvania! In 1931 White Haven closed its doors after serving just over 100 patients during its four year tenure while also causing much financial hardship to surrounding communities due to unsubsidized expenses associated with providing health care services not only within White Haven but also across DuPont County line into Maryland where DuPont had their corporate headquarters located at that time! However due largely to popular demand from residents within fairmount itself beginning early in 1933 (the same year that Jr.] Franklin D Roosevelt served his lone term as President) White Haven reopened under new management less than one year later (December 1st 1934) complete with state subsidized healthcare plans allowing residency within fairmount proper including free access to X-rays and other tests without prior appointment or notice being necessary unlike many other small towns throughout West Virginian Territory where such services were either unavailable or very expensive! After several more years of growth over which numerous property purchases followed including additional acreage inside/outside fairmount proper resulting in an increase overall population from 3rdousand souls back up up to 7thousand souls by 1980 when annexed into Charleston City Limits), by 1990 all remaining buildings within fairmont proper including Whitehaven Hospital had been demolished leaving behind single family homes now known simply as "Homespun". As recently as 2000 homebuilders had begun purchasing formerWhitehaven Hospital land bordering both east & west sides of main street between Main Street & Elkridge Road again reopening another hospital specifically designed for housing development however this time renamed Gateway Preparatory School) once again servinghousing needs primarily among Blacks & recent immigrants currently residing insidefairmount Proper) making continuing progress towards becoming yet another thriving communitywithinWestVirginia's finer grits despite continued economic challenges facingthatregiontoday

Fairmont is a town in Marshall County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 1,477 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wheeling-Charleston-Fayette Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Fairmont was George Hines and his family who came from Waukesha County, Wisconsin in 1821. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Kanawha River. In 1827 they moved to what is now Fairmont and started a farm which grew into a large corn and wheat plantation with over 100 slaves by 1840. The Hines family sold their farm in 1865 to John Cranch Sr., an Congressman from West Virginia from 1861-1865. He also bought 400 acres (160 hectares) of forest adjacent to Fairmont for development as an agricultural center called Woodford Forest until it was abandoned by those same developers in 1903 due to low production costs compared to other agricultural areas in the state at that time. In 1875–76, James Fenton established a small mill at what is now known as downtown Fairmont where he manufactured flour, feed and hardware products until 1911 when he closed down because of competition from larger mills throughout central Appalachia . The last resident ofFairmount died on October 15th, 1990 after years of illness

The company began operations in West Virginia in 1786 and made its first investment in this state in 1792. The Fairmont Hotel opened its doors to travelers on October 1, 1877.
