Fitchburg, Wisconsin is a small town in the far northeast corner of Wisconsin. It is bordered by the towns of Beloit to the north and west, Menomonie to the east, and Racine to the south. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. The first European settlement in Fitchburg was made in 1838 by Capt. Samuel Waring and his men when they were looking for a new home for their family. They found land on which they built a cabin and named their community after Fitchburg, England where they had been born. For many years it was one of only two settlements in this part ofWisconsin that did not have a post office - mail service arrived from Menomonie in 1871. The town's history can be traced back to 1862 when John Dickey bought land southeast of town for $5 an acre and began building what would become known as "Dickey's Mill". This mill became one of the most important economic engines in village development until it closed its doors in 1978 due to competition from larger mills more than 30 miles away. Since then, several attempts have been made to reopen Dickey's Mill - all with negative results. In 2000, entrepreneur Troy Kocher started an online petition drive seeking permission from the state government to build a new mill on site; but even this effort failed to gain much traction among residents or business owners who felt that no such damper could ever revive Fitchburg's economy again as it had done before. In 2006, local resident Randy Schmidt founded "Riverwest Brewery" in nearby Menomonie; but even though Riverwest Brewery enjoyed modest success throughout its brief tenure (initially selling 6 barrels per day), it clearly didn't fill any void that existed within Fitchburg since there has been no attempt since then by anyone other than locals themselves either open up another brewery or start manufacturing beer hereabouts again! Notwithstanding this discouraging trend, some good signs may be startingto emerging for Fitchburg as plans are being finalized for yet another high-end hotel/conference center set to open soon adjacenttoDickey's Mill mall which will bring jobs both directlyand indirectly into town while also providing much-needed sorely needed revenue source reviving our struggling downtown core!

Fitchburg is a town in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 26,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Fitchburg was made on November 3, 1837 by Amos Richardson and his family as a refugee from Hartford Connecticut. The town's name comes from an early settler, Nathaniel Fitch (1774-1848). The townsite that would become Fitchburg was originally known as "Bradford" because it lay on the border of two other towns: Bradford and Waukesha. In 1836, John C. Frick moved to this location and renamed it after himself: Fitchburg in honor of his late father General John Cushing Frick (1780-1857), who had served as a colonel in the Mexican War and then as United States Minister to Great Britain. When General Frick died in 1856, his son took over management of the community and continued to call it "Fitchburg." By 1870, however, most residents had called it "Fitzgerald." During this time frame there were also several changes to the name - one being that when Amos Richardson's brother-in-law James Fitzgerald bought land east of present day Fitzgerald Avenue in 1851 he changed its name too (to Sheffield) because he felt that Fitzgerald Run could be better named after him than Sheffield which would later become Waukesha. In 1865 Samuel Morse donated land for a town square near what is now State Street/Highway 41 with donations from many families within our community including those from nearby West Allis and Racine; Commodore Perry delivered an address on May 2nd 1865 anchored off shore just south of present day downtown FITCHBURG while visiting Milwaukee County! Commodore Perry's visit brought people together around what would become central business district or CBD which included all current neighborhoods located along State Street north of highway 41 today! This event marked beginning of downtown development which continue up until this very day! In 1896 – 97 new homes were built at corner State Street/Highway 41 and Washington Avenue just east of where state street meets federal avenue today due to booming economy during Progressive Era! In 1924 local man Julius Kapp founded Kapp’s grocery store & feed services on South Main Street northeast of present day Green Bay Road/Stateline Drive North across US Highway 12 WI along with convenience store & gas station thereafter becoming one large shopping center known today simply as Shoppingtown USA! Fitchburg is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the seat of Fitchburg County. The population was 5,208 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee-Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first white settler in what is now Fitchburg was Gideon Green in 1837. Fitchburg was founded on April 10, 1836, by Isaac Griggs and his family from Lexington, Kentucky. The original town plat included a square mile (1 km2) for public use and one half mile (800 m²) for private residences. A post office was established at Fitchburg on November 14, 1836, under the name of Lexington; it was discontinued July 12, 1840. In 1840, an act to establish a township system in Wisconsin passed by the US Congress provided that each township should have two townships with a total population of not more than 4500 residents each: one east of Milwaukee and one west of Milwaukee; these townships were formed into Fitchburg Township on April 10th,1840. The first school in what is now Fitchburg opened in September 1839 as Cedar Grove Academy with six students grades K-5th grade and three male teachers; it closed in 1862 due to financial difficulties caused by Colonel John Claflin's American Expedition against Mexico which disrupted trade between America and Europe; this led to increased demand for education throughout rural communities across America when goods unavailable from home became available through importation instead In 1861 William Ladd purchased 1/4 acre (0·30 ha) off Center Road near where Mennonite Cemetery now stands for $135 Paid For & Withdrawn From Sale By Geo Wm Hahn Sept 1861 . On this site He erected 3 buildings including 2 barns & 2 storehouses Which he named after his Father George Washington Ladd who had bought it from Mr Hoyt Aug 1860 For $100 . This land comprised all that still remains today of Center Road which ran north from present day High Street east toVermont Avenue south then turned east along present day North Ave until it reached High Street where it terminated at present dayCenter Road
