Kaukauna is a small town in southwestern Wisconsin, United States. It was founded on the Kaukauna River by Danish settlers in 1836. The population was 3,752 as of the 2010 census. Kaukauna is part of the Stevens County metropolitan area. The first European to set foot in what is now Kaukauna was Valdemar Rasmussen, a soldier with the Danish army who explored and mapped the Great Lakes region early in the 19th century. He named one of his rivers "Kaukauna" after his home country, Denmark. The Rasmussens landed at what is now Kettle Moraine National Monument on July 11, 1836, and began building their log cabin there. By October 9 they had completed their house and moved into it for the winter. In 1840-1841 Hidetaka Sakai arrived from Japan with his family and started farming in what are now northwest corner of Kaukauna Township (now part of Kenosha County). He built a small cabin near where he currently lives on an old sugarcane plantation which he inherited from his father-in-law Ikeda Shigeki Kuroda from Japan's Matsumoto Domain during that time period. In 1845 Sakai married Emo Kawamura, sister of future Governor of Wisconsin Winthrop Judd Emerson Schmitz (1828-1905). They raised five children here: Kawamura Shizuko (1846-1920), Kawamura Minoru (1849-1927), Sakai Eijiro (1851-1929), Sakai Kunio (1854-1930) and Kitamura Akiko (born December 6th 1860). Kaukauna, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state ofWisconsin. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. Kaukauna is located in Racine County, Wisconsin on the southern border of Milwaukee County. It is bordered by the towns of Waukesha to the east and north, Menomonee Falls to the west, and Racine to the south. The first white people arrived in Kaukauna in 1835 when Captain John Lillis and his party set out from Green Bay on their great voyage across America. They camped near present-day Kaukauna Lake until they reached its shores on July 10th that year. There they built a cabin and worshipped there until they departed for unknown reasons that summer morning. In 1836 Danish settlers Jens Nielsen and Peder Fuglsang landed at what is now downtown Kaukauna with their families after sailing downriver from Milwaukee as part of a large fur trading expedition led by Peter Kesselring. The first school was established in Kaukauna in 1837 by Revahel Christensen and her husband Ole Rasmussen who taught Indian children before sending them off to live with relatives back home across Canada or New York City (). In 1840–1841 Reverend Rasmus Larsen organized an agricultural society here which grew into what is today known as First Lutheran Church (). According to village history, “When Captain Lillis’ party passed through this area he left behind him some copper plates which were found hereabouts many years later by Frits Reichardt." This treasure may have been looted during World War II or even earlier as no coins or other artifacts have been recovered from this area since then! The captain's plate has never been found again but it has become one of Kaukauna's most famous landmarks due to its similarity theretoin several popular tourist attractions around town including Lillis' Landing () today known as State Street followed closely by nearby Menomonee Falls Resort where you can buy replicaCaptain John Lillis copper plates (), also known locally as 'LILLIS PLATE'. In 1862 Norwegian immigrants Thorvald Pedersen (later spelled Peder Pedersen) and Ole Olsen settled nearby along with family members Hans Jacobsen (Hans Jensen), Anders Andersen (Anders Johansen) and Ludvigsen Bøchner (Ludwig Boehner). These arrivals constituted about 60% of all new residents during that decade according to village records (). By 1870 there were 232 residents living here out of a total population of 698 (); however during prohibition times these numbers decreased rapidly due to underground gambling operations being conducted without any government oversight (). After repeal Of Prohibition local businesses became illegal once again so much so that few natives remained within the community long enough for descendants born afterwards to take up residence; only 14 individuals remain buried within original boundaries still visible today! Most importantly however cultural continuity between early settlers + newcomers continues throughout entire village populace having experienced births, deaths & moves combined over more than 200 years now making it difficult if not impossible for outsiders attempting comprehensive genealogical research alone timeframe herein!
