In recent years there have been efforts to rename Menomonee Falls as "Erie". This proposal has met stiff resistance from residents who feel that Erie would only dilute their community's cultural heritage and identity while also increasingdistance between themselves and their larger neighbor to the south. As of 2019 there is no official plan or timeline for any such change but locals are continueng to pressure city officials to consider renaming Menomonee Falls as Erie
