A new courthouse was built at nearby Easton in 1865 and declined to be annexationed again until after Brown v Board of Education (1935), which led to an increase in real estate values across the county line so that Easton had to annexe again for financial reasons There were also efforts to establish an agricultural center around Neenah but these failed due primarily to lack of land or good transportation access from the larger towns along the north-south highway corridor

Richardson's Cabin remained standing until 1901 when it burned down. In 1855, General James Ketchum gave orders for troops to be stationed at Green Bay so that he could protect against possible Indian attacks. When news reached Ketchum that there were no Indians around, he ordered his men to leave their posts and return home pending further instructions from headquarters. This order led to some friction between settlers and military officers because many felt they had been misled about what awaited them should theyapses into Indian territory; this conflict would continue until 1857 when General John Custer arrived at Green Bay with 5,000 soldiers and destroyed all evidence of any contact with Native Americans within sight or hearing
