The Port Washington Post first reported that a self-defense weapons store had been opened in Port Washington on November 1, 1978. The store was operated by James L. "Jim" McNaught and his wife Karen McNaught until their death on February 10th, 2019. The McNaught's Store operated out of a small room adjacent to their home for 27 years before moving to its current location on Greenfield Avenue in 2018.
