Binoculars have been around since the 16th century and were originally used for sighting in hunting. In 1875, sheboygan manufacturer George W. Pease started selling binoculars under the name Hispano-Suiza. The first modern binocular design was created by a Sheboygan man named John Lisle in 1879. He designed a tripod-mounted device that could be worn on the eye to improve magnification and vision for hunting large game. In 1901, American inventor Charles Hougham developed the first true 3x magnifying glass telescope and began making these devices available to the general public. By 1914, over 100 different manufacturers were manufacturing binoculars in Sheboygan County alone! Sheboygan, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Sheboygan County. The population was 81,711 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Wisconsin after Milwaukee, and it is also one of the fastest-growing cities in America. The city's nickname is "The Dairy Capital of America." Sheboygan began as an agricultural community on the banks of the rivers Kettle and Sheboygan, about 20 miles (32 km) north of Milwaukee. In 1847, when David Wohl purchased land along both banks of the Kettle River from Native Americans for $2 per acre, he named his community Sheboygan after his wife's family name, Shebelnago. The first post office was established at Sheboygan in 1849. In 1861, John Dickey established a sawmill on what would become known as Dickeyville Island near where modern-day North Main Street crosses Hegarty Creek. In 1865, John Fries became owner and operator of a flour mill on Whitefish Bayou east of town; this mill helped start Milwaukee's grain trade by shipping flour to Chicago from Batavia (now Midland), Illinois. In 1969–70, Mayor Earle Cushing initiated plans to redevelop downtown into an open-air mall with high-end stores and restaurants that would have been part of what would be then called "Milwaukee Meadows." After strong local resistance and opposition from wealthy downtown developers who wanted to keep their property alone as their own commercial district within town limits,[1] Cushing's plan came to fruition as One Mile South Downtown which anchors Walker Development Center now located adjacent to First Interstate Park across I-94 southbound at Kinnaird Avenue

Sheboygan, Wisconsin was founded in 1836 by John Sheboygan and his family. The town grew rapidly during the early years of theWisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce boom, and by 1840 it had a population of 710 people. By 1851, Sheboygan had a population of 2,000 people and had become an important commercial center for the region. The city's growth continued until the late 19th century, when it began to decline as a result of growing trade with Chicago and other northern cities. In spite of this decline, however, Sheboygan remains one of the most significant cultural centers in southwestern Wisconsin. The first settlers in Sheboygan were farmers who arrived from Michigan in 1836. These men were followed soon after by others from Illinois and Iowa. At first, these new arrivals constructed homes either on or near current-day Water Street. However, due to lack of transportation options at that time, they quickly built businesses along Lake Michigan Boulevard which served as their principal economic artery. By 1840, many residents had moved into what is now downtown Sheboygan thanks to opportunities available during the Wisconsin Manufacturing & Commerce Boom period (1830-1850). This era saw an unprecedented level of industrial growth throughout much of America due to advances in technology andaunderstanding demand for goods made in those regions. During the late 19th century there was also a great deal of social change taking place within Sheboygan proper as well as throughout much northwest Wisconsin due to factors such as urbanization (the arrival of large numbersof immigrants) and technological advancements (the spreadofrailroads through Northwestern America). This period saw increasedmarriage among local families; educational efforts became more widespread;andnew churches were built throughout central WI following missionary work conducted by Methodists and Baptists alike. Despite some challenges posed by these changes-most notablyWWII-Sheboygan experienced steady growth through both its post-war years until the early 1960s when vinyl records replaced phonograph discs as mainstream music sources
Sheboygan, Wisconsin was founded in 1847. The city is named for Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Sheboygan had a population of over 100,000 in the early 1900's. In 1945, the city was moved from its original location to its current location on the west side of the river.
