This wheel was used for target practice by the farmer's children. The first guns that were imported into America were made in Waupun.
Waupun is a small town in Wisconsin, located in the Town of Waupun on the east side of the Fox River. The population was 5,546 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Dane County. The first known permanent settler in what is now Waupun was Nicholas Flournoy, who arrived there in 1836 and built a cabin on land that later became part of Waupun Township. A post office called Waupun was established in 1837, and remained open until 1862. The first store in town was built by David Largent in 1843. In 1847, John Rodgers founded a blacksmith shop here and served as its proprietor until his death in 1865. In 1863, Jens Jensen opened a grocery store and restaurant here which remain operational to this day. In 1870, Isaac Niesenthal opened a bakery here which remains open today as Niesenthal's Bakery & Cafe. Famed baseball player Babe Ruth visited Waupun on two occasions while he was playing for the Boston Americans of the American Association; one visit came during his 1915 season and another during his 1924 season (the only time he ever played professional baseball). In 1922, George Bender opened a shoe store here which continued operation until it closed in 1984. In 1941, local war hero Leonard Wood purchased an acreage adjacent to downtown from city leaders for use as their new civic center; construction began soon afterward and completed just three years later (1946). During World War II many residents worked at various munitions plants located nearby; some still live near those plants today. As larger towns developed throughout Dane County over the years - Des Moines being one notable example - Waupun slowly declined relative to its neighboring communities; however, since 2000 it has seen an increase in population due to suburban migration within Dane County rather than outside influences such as annexation or growth within its borders alone. Today much of what once made up downtown Waupunki has been preserved or restored thanks to funders including both state government via WisDOTand local officials such as Mayor Mike DeHaan and Council Member Dave Jaworski - with many businesses remaining open despite having been damaged or destroyed by fire or other events natural or man-made alike over recent decades like Hurricane Harvey way back when... so long story short: Thanks everyone!

Waupun is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waupun Metropolitan Area. Waupun was founded in 1847 by German immigrants and has been a community since that time. The first post office in Waupun opened in 1849. The town's namesake, John Wauconda, donated land to make up the present-day city of Waupun; he died without leaving any heirs and his land passed to his nephews and niece who then sold it for development purposes. The first store in what is now Waupun opened its doors on November 30, 1847. At that time, there were just a few buildings and no means of transportation other than horseback or boat travel between Milwaukee and nearby towns such as La Crosse (on the east side of the lake) or Green Bay (west side). Settlement began slow because many people were unfamiliar with each other's cultures and language skills were limited. A meeting was called on January 12th, 1850 to discuss ways to improve trade within the new community which would later be renamed “Waupun” after John Wauconda’s donation lands
Waupun was a post town in the town of Waupun, Wisconsin. The first post office was established at Waupun on November 1, 1837. It was discontinued on December 30, 1859.
