Wisconsin Rapids is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Douglas County. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census, making it the third-most populous town in Douglas County after Milwaukee and Racine. As of 2017, Wisconsin Rapids had become one of the most rapidly growing communities in all of Southeast Wisconsin due to its location on the Fox River estuary and its access to major highways including I-94 and US-41. The first ammunition factory in what is now Wisconsin Rapids was built by John Brown & Sons Ammunition Company in 1835. The company manufactured firearms, munitions, explosives, powder, shot shells and other munitions until 1945 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Incorporated. In 1955, Winchester divested itself of itsRepeating Arms subsidiary and continued as a firearms manufacturer under the name Remington Arms Company until 1997 when it became an independent company again under the name Remington Outdoor Works (ROW). Since ROW's inception, they have produced over 4 million rounds of ammunition for their customers across America! In 1892, the first commercial ammunition store in Wisconsin Rapids was opened by W.H. McGee and H.C. Hutton. Ammunition sales began at this location until 1928 when the town's first grocery store, The Grapes, replaced it. In 1929, Armoury Ammunition Depot was built on the north bank of the river in Wisconsin Rapids and became the town's primary source of ammunition for local use and also served as a munitions manufacturing plant during World War II. It closed in 1984 after production ceased because of economic difficulties within the company.
Wisconsin Rapids is a small town in the United States state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The name "Wisconsin Rapids" comes from the French word "rapid," meaning "very fast." The town was founded in 1892 by lumber baron John Vanderbilts, who named it after his home state of Vermont. He and his family moved to what is now Wisconsin Rapids in 1902 and built a sawmill and wagon factory there. In 1907, he donated land for a public water system that now serves all of northwestern Wisconsin. Wisconsin Rapids grew rapidly during World War II as the military located there to supply ammunition, gasoline, oil and other supplies to war-time allies. Although much of this growth came later as businesses boomed during peacetime, Highway 41 (then Highway 7) running through the town remains one of its most important assets today. In 1951, Congress passed legislation naming it after General George Custer, Jr., hero of the Battle of Little Bighorn which ended the Mexican–American War. The current incarnation of Wisconsin Rapids began to take shape when local businessmen merged their businesses into one organization in 1957 called The Wisconsin Lumber Company Incorporated (WLCI). This company became an anchor tenant at what is now known as The Grist Mill Ruins State Park and continues to provide employment for many residents today across various sectors within our community including manufacturing (the WLCI mill closed in 2003), retail trade (a grocery store opened in 2002), health care (a hospital opened in 2006), agricultural production (a farmstead has been active since 1954) and research & development services for several local startups!

It was called “fuzi” meaning “to break” or “to scatter.” This type of ammunition consisted of small stones that were hurled into the air and then detonated by hitting an object nearby. This caused a large explosion that destroyed anything within range. The Chinese were the first to use artillery, which is what gave them their ability to attack other countries with great precision. In 1673 AD, Dutchmen discovered powder magazines hidden inside caves in Gibraltar while exploring the area for mining rights. They soon began using this new type of ammunition, which they named “bombshells” after the bunnies found during their excavation process. These bombs were made out of lead shot and had a fuse that allowed them to explode on impact instead of just dropping from the sky like other explosive devices did at that time. By 1795 AD, gunpowder had become so powerful that it could be stored as munitions rather than being used as currency due to its danger to public health! A year later, Englishmen discovered firecrackers manufactured from nitre (a kind of salt) mixed with nails! This led to the development of fireworks in 1847 AD! Finally, in 1903 AD, rifle cartridges became popular because they could travel much further than cannon shells! Rifle cartridges featured a round head designed to fit inside a larger cartridge case designed for cannons! This allowed soldiers on both sides of World War I to carry more rounds with them when fighting off enemy forces

The town was laid out in 1835 and became an incorporated village in 1856. It became a city in 1907 and has since grown into one of the most populous towns in Wisconsin Rapids County. It is also home to Ripon College, one of the largest colleges for women in America and one of the few private universities within reach of most people across Wisconsin Rapids County
The first permanent European settlement in what is now Wisconsin Rapids was made by the French in 1784. The town of Milwaukee was founded in 1833, and the city of Racine was established in 1836. The two towns amalgamated in 1903 to form the current city of Wisconsin Rapids.
