Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin is a city located in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin metropolitan area. The population was 606 at the 2010 census. It is the only city in Wisconsin Rapids metropolitan area and one of five cities in the town of Racine. The first knife made in Wisconsin Rapids was a Bowie Knife. This knife was made by John Haggerty from Racine and it was used for hunting and fishing. In 1853, Isaac Stevens, an entrepreneur from Green Bay started a knife company called Stevens Manufacturing Company. He also produced axes and other tools. The company became successful and Stevens began producing knifes as well. In 1871, he donated his entire holdings to the City of Racine in memory of his father who had died two years earlier while serving as mayor of Racine. The City of Racine kept Stevens Manufacturing Company active until 1958 when it merged with American Knife Corporation to form United Cutlery Corporation.United Cutlery Corporation produced knives until 1977 when it merged with Emerson Knives to form Emerson-Knives Incorporated. After United Cutlery Corporation ceased production, several local companies continued production including Western Bladesmiths which operated from 1978-1997; Becker’s Custom Knives which operated from 1998-2003; Big Bad Butcher Shop which operated from 2004-2009; iGadgetz USA which operated from 2009-2013; Schroder’s Bladesmithing & Forge which operates since 2013 Through these businesses,Wisconsin Rapids continued to produce high quality knives that were sold throughout the Midwest and East Coast due to their reputation for being reliable and durable products During its time as a producer of knives, United Cutlery Corporation produced over 1 million knives In 2007, Emerson-Knives Incorporated decided not to renew their license with United Cutlery Corporation so this ended all knife production within those corporations - leaving Wisconsin Rapids without any high quality knife manufacturers

The city was founded in 1846 as a trading post on the Fox River by General Anthony Wayne and his forces during the Mexican War. It became a town in 1857 and then a city in 1911. Wisconsin Rapids was named for Chief Milwaukee of the Potawatomi Nation who had been killed near its mouth in 1824 by Ulysses S. Grant's forces while seeking revenge for an Indian raid on his village two years earlier. The name originated with General Anthony Wayne who renamed it after Marquette's visit to North America in 1683 which led to the first European settlement of this continent west ofthe Mississippi River. The City of Wisconsin Rapids was chartered on November 8, 1912 by Mayor John Fenton and Councilman Myron Capps from sections 2nd (northwest), 3rd (southwest), 4th (southeast), 5th (southwest) and 6th (east) of Outagamie County; sections 1st (southwest), 2nd (northwest), 3rd (southwest), 4th (southeast), 5th(southwest) and 6th(east) were added later that year. At its incorporation, Wisconsin Rapids had a population of 727 people living in ninety-four blocks bounded northward by First Avenue east to Snelling Avenue; southward by Second Avenue west to Elm Street; eastwardby Third avenue south to First Street; westwardto Big Sioux creek which divided Outagamie County into northwest and southeast portions respectively

The city also developed an excellent supply of tools and equipment used by war industry. Today, Wisconsin Rapids is a thriving community with some of the best living conditions in Michigan County.
